Went to try it out and my origin account had been hacked Almost puts a sour note on the whole thing for me.Beta is out. Anyone playing? Is actually OK. Thought the WW1 era weapons would suck but they are pretty useable. Tanks are fun. The gameplay is a little slower than BF4 and as a result it lends itself to team play with your squad.
Tanks have the same problem the at-st had in battlefront, the career tanker just sits on spawn screen until he can grab the tank then racks up 50+ kills easily while at best having a few K rounds thrown his way.
Planes feel good is about all i can say......feels like im flying a kite, have wrecked and been wrecked by land troops (using sniper/AA guns/roof mount vickers etc).
Infantry combat feels pretty fuckin average, cavalry is magically 5x stronger than a regular soldier without any visible additional armour.
The infantry combat isnt too bad either from what i've played of it but the weapons definitely take getting used to. I assume they've slowed down the bullet speed being WW1 etc.
I think what would determine whether i got it or not would be the maps, if they went light on maps like they did for Battlefront then yeah i doubt i'd pick it up. Battlefront's maps made up for it by being superbly designed - but it also had the whole star wars element to it. This setting alone wouldnt be enough for me
Id like the whole tank aspect if it had a more realistic damage model and needed multiple people to drive it.
I'm not 100% sold on the tanks - as someone who used to spend a lot of time in them (found the later BF's too annoying as you'd get constantly raped by lock-ons/helicopters) - they're big ponderous fuckers. That heavy tank that's literally a moving metal box - omg. My favourite is the land raider looking beast but they're all pretty clunky.
Personally i'd just like them to remake Battlefield 1942 on a modern engine, the world war 2 tanks were by far the best tanking action in a Battlefield IMO. I've found this game better than i thought it'd be, but going in i had zero expectations too as i havent been following it.
I'm also pretty impressed by the way they've implemented horses, the cavalary player models are often super sweet, particularly the british one. Kind of fucks me off now that they didnt implement taun tauns in Battlefront.
So far it's been good - explosions leave very large craters in the ground which can be used for cover - i crouched in one and had a tank roll over me which was impressive. The building damage is also pretty damned good - the town area of the desert map is probably the best to fight in, lots of incidental cover and building ruin. I've noticed you can also interact with doors and shutters to open and close them (but its annoying that you have to hold the button down for a second or so to do so - can get you owned if enemies are around).
It's also a big plus that things like the zepplin isnt on rails and is fully controllable/destroyable. There's a lot of plusses - we'll have to see how the game pans out though,.
One thing ive been noticing about Battlefield 1 so far is it seems vehicle wrecks either linger for a long time or the entire map. It's cool seeing burning tanks all over the place- although i suppose BF4 had that too.
Does anyone know a good alternate site to Origin to get a key?
need to create account and like on facebook https://www.facebook.com/cdkeyscom/app/ ... e_internal
Have ordered from here before (although only a $10 game) and got key straight away
bc2 (battlefields peak)
BC2 isn't a bad game at all. Certainly it achieves evoking the feeling of how a battlefield experience should be but by no means was it the magnum opus many deem it to be. It is a distilled version. I was more than stoked to have a new BF game on PC after feeling as though DICE had run off with a 2 bit floosey, parading their single player debut on the xbox, knowing full well they expected me to be waiting for them to come back once they'd lost interest in show boating to plebeians. I suggest that that fling, as much a passing fancy as they shrug it off as, influenced the titles DNA and detracts from the concept of a battlefield game in as many ways as it improves it.
BF1 is ok. The open beta map does not feature stagnant trench warfare, which is what I think of when WW1 is mentioned and could be an interesting and immersive multiplayer experience. One that I hope comes to life in some of the full games maps. Though if you really want to examine how the great war played out in all of its theatres, certainly there would have been stupidly unchoreographed skirmishes raging due to sheer lack of information and coordination on all sides and an average public game of 64 player conquest just might embody that.
I would have liked to see a more structured game presented. Perhaps not as a replacement for conquest but rather a reimagining of rush but on a much larger scale, where instead of a dozen soldiers having a brief skirmish in one section of land before moving onto another. An actual trench system could be fought through, broken up by huge swathes of no mans land requiring whole teams to enact a simultaneous push in order to progress the match. I think that would have invoked a much greater sense of how the war in question was fought on the most historically recalled fronts. But hey DICE are exploring the lesser told chapters.
Used the career trick to unlock all the anti tank stuff for assault. The "AT Rocket" which seems to just be a shell or huge bullet (can a WW1 weapons nerd confirm?) is really good and that, in combination with AT grenades and the light anti-tank grenade means a single person can solo a tank if they have cover (in town, basically).
The flak cannon at C is a pretty damn good turret for attacking infantry if you've got a bit of support around you.
The bomber foreward gun is seriously powerful if you have a good pilot, that'll rip through infantry and tanks and you can just blind-fire into cluster points like C/D and rack up the kills. It's easy to aim as well, as opposed to the gun on the back of the bomber which I can't hit shit with.
Gotta say, BF1 beta has been pretty fun.
