Hopefully the tech guys that worked on alien isolation are helping the rts team as they are the only ones that seem to have a clue.

edit: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2015/04/total- ... rate-team/

Hah this is good news, but not in the way they meant :P

Still, not pre-ordering this one after the Rome 2 fiasco. (Alien tho was noice)

Anyone played Attila? Some are saying that it's what Rome 2 should have been..

Attila is arguably superior to Rome 2, though many people prefer Rome 2 due to the time period. Attila is definitely superior from a systems point of view though.

I'm really thinking about getting back into Total War: Rome 2 or purchasing Attila, can't make up my mind.

Attila just plays better than Rome 2. Liking it a ton so far.

Yeah it's a much more focused experience. What faction did you go with?

I went with one of the egyption factions because I wanted more of a traditional total war feel and they are one of the last factions that the huns take control over. It's so far very easy which is maybe why I havent played as much of the campaign as I would have liked. I did start a franks campaign but grabing that initial land is very bloody hard because the factions near you turn on you at the drop of a dime (as I suppose they would if you started claiming their territories as your own.

I also never really played rome 2 a few months past launch (which is apparently when they started rolling out all the good fixes) but so far it feels like its taken everything good from rome 2 and built on it alot.

I would pay the extra $$ for atilla over grabbing rome2. but thats my opinion. I agree with everything DJ has said. I do prefer the time period of the rome games (seeing rome at its downfall :( ) but as far as mechanics go Atilla > rome 2 all the way.

The AI in Attila is pretty great too - it puts up a very real challenge on both the campaign map and in the field battles.

By Egyptians you mean the Sassanids? They're the easiest faction in Attila supposedly.

The Franks is hard to get territory, but once you start to grab a few that quickly changes. I found sending a navy south and raiding the Western roman empire suddenly made all the surrounding germanics want to suck your cock - that and a land army raiding as well.

Yeah south eastish if i remember correctly. They are easy to the point of being boring, last time I played my campaign I owned a huge part of the eastern roman empire and i had obliterated alot of the smaller southern factions.

I'll probably start a new game as the franks (or maybe the huns?) and head straight for the roman empire rather than starting trouble with the other germanic tribes.

Atilla has a sort of polished feel too it when compared with rome 2 and although I'm not a huge warhammer fan I'd still pick this up if it was similar.

Still doing the very long prologue, but everything so far just feels better.

Also find that the barbarian tribes are compelling for the first time in a total war game. I always found it tough to move away from playing as Rome in Total War: Rome 2. Nothing was as satisfying as the well disciplined legions defeating the hordes whilst vastly outnumbered. But Attila has got me loving the barbarian charge. I get a hoot out of watching my unarmoured, chest hair showing meat-head barbarians charge into a line of heavily armoured infantry.

I'll likely go the Visigoths for the grand campaign.

Ostrogoths apparently have the best selection of units - almost half barbarian half roman.

But I think those Barb factions have to really relocate west or they'll get butt-raped the Huns when they start to appear.

Fucking horse archers though. Seriously those things are a blight on humanity.

Edit: Had some serious luck with the concluding battle against the Romans. Managed to beat the army with good spear positioning and didn't even need the horse reinforcements.

No shit? Did you save the reply by any chance? That's a pretty challenging fight.

Then again, what difficulty level were you playing at? If on Normal or Easy that'd explain it. Try the historical battle on Hard and let me know how you go with it. I hope you're only playing on Hard as a minimum by the way. There's one thing about Total War in that it sucks if there's no challenge. Hard is like Normal in TW

It was normal I'm assuming, the prologue didn't ask me to choose a difficulty.
