Quake Live still lives due to support from tournaments like quakecon and the playerbase, in america you can find games any time and even in australia you've got the champs at 4sg refusing to take the thing off life support. There are more then enough people around who want to play these types of games.
Through UE4. Seems like they're going for an app store kind of thing. Hopefully we don't see people trying to flog weapons packs and maps for $5, but instead using it to push TC mods like Alien Swarm/RO/Killing Floor.I'm trying to work out how they expect to make money if it's F2P.

You need to create an account, sign in, and check the post in the "top secret" forum and click on the hyperlink on the word "YES" to download a zip with the game files, 521mb since they mostly use blank dev textures for everything so far.
That was one of the best things about the arena shooters in their prime. They all were inspired by the same concepts and root games but the slight differences in each of them exemplified the different evolving gameplay and unique stylings.
I would be supremely happy if this project injects those elements back into the FPS genre as it is so freaking stagnant that I literally can't even see any difference in any of the current games and their seemingly universal gameplay.
