If it's "pls make our game for us" then it has a lot better chance at being a good arena shooter then anything a modern publisher could orchestrate.

I used to enjoy unreal tournament, played most of them. They were a great lan game and I remember spending years pissing off others with the rocket launcher in that game. Multiple rockets to the feet of baddies was extremely satisfying.

However like most games they were good back in their day and I'm not sure how relevant it would be in today's gaming scene.

The thing about today's gaming scene is that they're a bunch of cocksnorting teenagers who don't know shit about good games. This isn't for them, it's for us.

Quake Live still lives due to support from tournaments like quakecon and the playerbase, in america you can find games any time and even in australia you've got the champs at 4sg refusing to take the thing off life support. There are more then enough people around who want to play these types of games.

I loved UT for just sheer mindless fun (actually, it went back to Quakeworld DM/CTF/TF FPS games) but while I didn't mind the following UTs, the franchise lost its edge. Having said that, like all the Unreal and Quake engine games, it always came down to the mapmakers and mod makers so this may not be a bad thing. I'm trying to work out how they expect to make money if it's F2P.

Through UE4. Seems like they're going for an app store kind of thing. Hopefully we don't see people trying to flog weapons packs and maps for $5, but instead using it to push TC mods like Alien Swarm/RO/Killing Floor.

That could be said about most arena shooters DJ. I think it's quite an unfair comparison, they were quite different and players from both games developed very different play styles which further separated them. I would rather have a set of ugly cousins than have equally ugly twins/triplets.

That was one of the best things about the arena shooters in their prime. They all were inspired by the same concepts and root games but the slight differences in each of them exemplified the different evolving gameplay and unique stylings.

I would be supremely happy if this project injects those elements back into the FPS genre as it is so freaking stagnant that I literally can't even see any difference in any of the current games and their seemingly universal gameplay.
