upgrading for bf2?

I know a lot of you are, and today I found a great bargain:

http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/show_prod ... y_id]=1177

its the x800xl in agp format (rare), its faster than the pro, not as fast as the xt but its cheaper than the pro.

a bargain at $550 for the performace, but its 'pre order' so who knows when its coming... but RIGHT now is a shit time to buy a video card with the 7800's coming and the next gen atis so soon around the corner, but if you cant wait i guess you just bought a 6800gt anyways ;-)

so out of the hardware loop, so next gen cards are right around the corner?

I'll probably just buy a 300 price point then...... or wait.

6800's will price down on arrival of the 78's quite nicely I would imagine. 6800GT's own bf2 compltely and are plenty enough for anything atm.

yeah the 6800gt is plenty good enough but it does not 'own' it.

You wont be running the highest setting on everything with aa and af turned up with a gt for example, while you CAN the frame rate isnt ideal - it would dip below 30 sometimes and be annoying.

But if you HAVE to have a new card for bf2 buy it on the same day as you get bf2 so you get the best price :)

ill be waiting for the 7800/ ati's fudo or whatever the fuck they are going to call it.

What the fuck are you talking about, I run 1280*1024 8xAA 16xAF with barely a hint of slowdown.

ive found that with full everthing on, 4x AA etc, u need 1.5gb (edit: well more than 1gb) system ram if you only have a 128mb card like a 6600gt.. unless u want the spend the first 2 mins a map caching in gfx.

i did tell you that, on msn then the next day you came back and said you have bought a 6800gt (and my advice was the x800), and later that day i saw the XL for 550, too late since you have bought something already... IM SORRY YOU RUSHED OUT AND GOT SOMETHING ELSE :)

its not like the game is even out till next week

dont worry the gt will be fine / not what i would get, but hey comparable.

the 50 metre wide shadows is a known bug, that occurs on nividia when your not using the 'right' drivers.

which came with the demo.

Interesting. So not the latest drivers off the NVidia site? Right oh, I'll give it a whirl.

Might get rid of the "Install the latest drivers even though you think you have the latest drivers" popup at the start of the game.

there at lots of ati and lots of nvidia fan boi's around here dont worry.

but in my personal experience of owning both the x800 and 6800gt was that the performace was pretty much the same and the gt's colours looked washed out, not as dynamic as the x800's

basically picture quality of the ati card CRAPPED all over the nvidia, otherwise there is nothing between them.

and goz i bloody well said to you on msn that the FUDO card was coming soon and you said 'wtf is that' and i said it was the next get card from ati, so NER :P

i did however say 'in a couple of months' and i bet if the 7800 is released next week it will be a paper release and you dont be able to actually get the cards from anywhere.

FROM inq: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=23951

WE MANAGED to get the final remaining details about the soon to be launched Geforce 7800 GTX. We revealed most of it already, but here we go again.

The chip is made using a 110 nanometre process and will have 302 million transistors. So far, this is the biggest chip ever built for graphics use. As we revealed before, the chip will be clocked at 430MHz and will use 1200MHz memory with a 256 bit GDRR3 interface.

It will have eight vertex shader units and will be able to process 24 pixels per clock. Nvidia claims that it has 24 pipelines. Some senior editors are referring to this chip as NV47 as it's nothing more than the NV47 was supposed to be, an NV40 with more pipelines and two more vertex shaders.

The peak fill rate of the card is 6.88 Billion/second (16 ROPs at 430 MHz). Bilinear-filtered texel fill rate is 10.32 billion/second when all 24 pipelines work at the full 430MHz.

The peak power consumption of the chip is 100 to 110W, all the information and benchmarks of the Geforce 7800 Ultra or two cards under SLI will be revealed at six in the morning European time, on the 22nd of June

The colours look washed out!~! Oh fuck no! Perhaps we should then try the "Digital vibrance" tool which makes everything look fucking sweet and the colours can almost blind you!
Really wert.

Oh, btw I can access that, its just my weird themes making it look like I can't.

And as for the performance and FPS, well lets put it this way. Im playing a full server with bots in 1280*1024 with full AA and AF and I don't notice slowdown.
Who cares about fps if your eyes can't see a problem. :)

Ditto been solidly playing online with everything on full except for sound (gg onboard) and havent noticed a hint of slowdown
