Digging Stranger Things on Netflix, it totally captures that sweet 80's Spielberg/King/Carpenter vibe.

got one more marco polo ep then i'm onto 'stranger things' that hopefully has less goddamn K words in it (Kublai, Kaidu, Karakorum, Kokachin, Khutulun, Kurultai) was hard to get into at first because i had no idea who all these people were, what they were doing and which K word it related to. but then michelle yeoh (of crouching tiger fame) showed up and i slowly pieced together what was going on. 100 eyes was particularly awesome again. couple of things tho:
Spoiler: Show
hated how marco and his dad became legendary swordsman and kung fu masters etc and wtf was that flaming sparrows/horses crap. how nice of them to survive being on fire long enough to go exactly where they were needed :dev:
anyway...
i didn't recognise winona but the missus did and now won't watch it

I binged watched Stranger Things over two nights. It's aimed at children of the 80s. Basically a Stephen King novel (say IT, crossed with Carrie, Longoliers, Stand By Me, Tommyknockers) crossed with ET, Goonies, John Carpenter, John Hughes, Let The Right One In, The Rivers Edge, Twin Peaks, and a dozen or so other 80s classics.

It's really cool watching something aimed directly at you. But like most Stephen King type stories, it gets a little bit less interesting the more you find out what is behind the strange happenings.

Yeah, I watched it over a weekend while doing some work, was good.
Spoiler: Show
With season 2 announced I wonder how they will handle it, I wonder if it will try continue the story somehow with the same characters etc. or if it will be like AHS and just be a different thing each season.

I just read that it is a continuation, they're not going the AHS route.

I've been power watching House of Cunts with the wife and are thoroughly enjoying it, very different take on US politics than Veep :D

Did we talk about The Expanse in here? That was also awesome.

It was good. I knew I was being manipulated, but I enjoyed it because it was using my childhood favs to do so. In the end it was style over substance, due to so much "homage", but a great style.
Spoiler: Show
I think the last scene showed hints to how it will continue. I almost would prefer if they left it stand alone though. I'm scared it might turn into something like True Blood

I enjoyed The Expanse.. I feel they really fleshed out the world quite well and there's a lot of room for that story to grow. Definitely looking forward to more of that.

I like that the characters were often just hanging on the bridge drinking coffee! You rarely if ever see everyday stuff like coffee in these kinds of shows.

BoJack Horseman. A dark comedy.

About an old has-been actor coming to terms with the fact he's inherently broken and can't find happiness.

Up to season 3 now. Took me a while to warm up to it, and I don't find the humour particularly funny most of the time.

But....

The show is deep, the characters are flawed and it goes into some very, very dark places. Especially in Season 3.

I cautiously recommend it, only because it's not in everyone's taste. If you get hooked it will take you on a thought provoking but ultimately sad journey. Very surprising given the initial impressions. I love this show and really need to see where it goes next.

I just finished season 3 and I don't walk away feeling better about myself, but I do like how it can evoke those sort of strong emotions.
