Haven't done much research on it, but what other mainstream movies has NZ been responsible for?

The whole "killing the film industry" by sending The Hobbit overseas sounds about right tbh.

WELLINGTON—New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said Wednesday that an agreement was reached with Time Warner Inc. to film "The Hobbit" movies in the Pacific country after a dispute with unions threatened to send the $500 million production overseas.

So Cate Blanchett has been signed on to reprise Galadriel even though she doesn't actually appear in the books...

But she is in the Silmarillion and Lost tales or whatever that other thing is called. PJ is likely grabbing plotlines/stories out of there to go into the movie like he did with parts of LOTR, which isnt a bad thing at all imo.

Galadriel was on The White Council, so I'm wondering if we're gonna see their attack on Dol Guldur? Think it was just hinted at/alluded to in the book?

yeah it was the 'other matters' gandalf referred to when he left the dwarves and bilbo at the edge of myrkwood. years before the hobbit takes place gandalf had been spying on dol guldur because he suspected that this 'troublesome necromancer' was sauron-related. there he rescued the dwarf king thrain who until recently wore the last of the dwarvish rings that sauron made. thrain gave gandalf the map of the lonely mountain and the key to the secret entrance and asked him to give them to his son. but he was so messed up he couldn't remember his sons name. gandalf eventually found that it was thorin oakensheild and passes on the map and key in bilbos house when the group is formed at the start of the hobbit.

dol guldur and the white coucil attack will be in it. saruman (lee is onboard), gandalf (yup), elrond (yup), galadrial (yup), cirdan (f**k yeah) and the chief of the dunedain (of aragorn fame)

the only thing i don't like is that viggo (aragorn) doesn't appear to be onboard. if it's going to bridge some of the events between the two stories it should have him catching gollum.

There's no way they would use another actor for Aragorn, and I really cant see Viggo not taking on the role - assuming its in it.

he apparently quit acting in 2009 but is penciled in on a few other movies. either way it shouldn't stop him.

Damn, some of the cast members make me feel happy in special places.

Martin freeman, James Nesbit, rumours of David Tennant... nice.
