mmm, Red-One stands out as a very difficult person to get the flag from,

and for all his spam and other issues, Amanajako (sp-been a while) wasnt that bad either.

time to pull out some very old demos and have a recap I feel...

From back when we were playing (99-03) I would say some of the top players are below.

HO.
The MX3 rapetrain, MentalTrousers, Cowboy

HD / HoF
Myr, Dox.

Duellers.
Amano, Dumbo, Sektor, MsToots, Iago

Cappers.
Vindicate, Rand0m

Rage
Ironfist, Jax

Good Teamplayers.
Slayer, Wolver, Eulogy, Twxt, Gen, Larno, Sheep

Most fun clan to play against
[52nd]

Voicepacks
[WK], but then I made it and I'm bias.

Well Gen used to play in 98-2001 with everyone else but under the nick Raza iirc and really wasnt even a blip on the skill radar in the tribes hay-day.

It's not really possible to pick one player that was better then everyone. As tribes is a team game based on positions.

A team can't really win if they aren't getting caps, but then a team can't win if their defence is weak or their base constantly goes down etc etc.

Every player played an important roll.

So if your going to a do a best player thing - maybe make it team based. The best 10 players from any era (even though its hard as skill levels have increased over the years).

I can't remember many names, otherwise I'd make a team.

Some great players that have I've remembered over the years:
mojoman
cantara
bevski
yarny
devik
wolver
garbo
xiao ninja
superior
beedee
bloody
meradion
groove
random

Anyway, currently, top 4 players left playing

bk
gen
xu1
marv
kust0m

probably Sephiroth - that guy was hectic.....id put road dogg up there too

@ kust if you're talking about 'team players' currently, remove bk and replace him with yourself. It came to my attention that bk doesn't have a bind for drop flag when he was capping the other day.....i think he has 'ctrl-k' on half his keyboard tho.

We are talking about Rand0m's brother Gen/Generator, right? Used to do nothing but cap/flag escort? He was an awesome escort.

I totally forgot about Marvello, Marv roxxs soxxs.

I agree with Kust.
As a team game it is difficult to name One, but positions makes it easier to elect many greats.

'Sup Jeta, 4ng3l, Boost and al'thor!!

WK, 52nd and [!] / DMc ...
ahh the memories.

my team of old gen players

capping - venom, vyndicate (sub nemesis or rail)

HO - capt nemo, reload, bloody (sub orange or sektor/MX3 squad)

munkys - nmag or doc (sub crisis)

lightd - any of the zX fags, probably imp and banzai from BA

HD - Legend length, lost sanity ruby knight or me

no team new or old is beating that line up

random and co all came into strength a little later i would call them second gen along with marv freestyle kust etc...they were playing with the first gen guys but at the tail end when the main clans were alot weaker than they were

Aussie players were overrated, and NZ players underrated due to Australia having widespread broadband. When NZ got widespread broadband, it was clear that NZ had a higher level, including the top players.

And the "higher skill level" these days is illusory. It's based on extreme map knowledge from playing the same three maps, and same mod. The only thing "next level" is chaingun, and I can think of a reason why that would be . Disk and nades are no better than what it used to be, and one can only guess that mortar and snipe standards would be way down (let's not forget ELF standards, carn).

There are lots of mid air flag passes, but that's because of the mod. Doing those in base are redundant. There were some pretty good Team Rabbit players back in the day, so I'm sure they could adapt to flag passing and beacon stopping.

Although, the odd player seems to be very highly skilled with mid field flag pickups. It's almost like they can tell where the flag is 400 metres away from behind a hill :madroof:

dumbo doth speaketh the truth

cept for the NZ bit

all the flag passing would not be so useful in base....but the skiing is way way faster now than it was

even average cappers now would have been guns back in the day
