Hah, that is terrible, no wonder they're giving it out for free, they're literally in our computers stealing our internets.

If your not super paranoid and haven't already taken measures to protect your privacy then you've had your data logged for years regardless.

Is Ubuntu a real alternative as a userfriendly o/s (GUI) that isn't MS or Apple?

Ubuntu has wine right - to allow compatibility with MS progs?

Anyone got experience?

Would be great using Win10 or whatever for gaming - and an opensource o/s for everything else.

If you are looking for something with a similar experience to windows you could check out Zorin OS (based on ubuntu). If you want maximum privacy try Tails as a live OS.

Wine has always been a bit iffy, it depends what you are trying to do with it. You can get an idea of what runs and what doesnt here https://appdb.winehq.org/

the benchmarks of games shows the difference between win7 and 10 is negligible

and to actually use it you must install classic shell or start8 to unfuck the UI
basically a downgrade, until directx 12 is forced, but the jump from 9 to 10 was meh as fuck... also vista forced

Yeah I could totally understand 8 being better on a tablet. I've only been using 10 on desktops. Although there is no Admin tools that work properly yet >_<

PSA for those with Nvidia cards on Windows 10. ShadowPlay is using huge amounts of RAM (upwards of 10gb on my computer) causing hard crashes in some games. Turn it off until they fix it.

Downloaded.

You can turn all that tracking shit off during the install, it prompts you for it. Pretty easy fix.

No didn't touch a thing just jumped straight in. Everything transferred over seamlessly. It's pretty intuitive. Downloaded it during the day and it installed in around 20 - 30 minutes. Done.

Interface is superior to Windows 8. In fact it's just generally better than Windows 8 in every way.

I was ready to format my SSD to put windows 10 on there but it turns out the upgrade process is really easy and I didn't have to reinstall anything but my video card drivers. All my games (on another HDD anyway) and other programs worked fine after the upgrade and most of the install process is done while your still using 7/8 if I remember correctly.

Some reports of games not working for people on win10 so you may still want to hold off but I've heard its pretty easy to downgrade back to original OS also.

just used a usb stick and http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software ... /windows10

deciding whether to go from win7 - win10 feels a bit like the old win2k - xp (xtra problems) turmoil
