free game on made by bethesda and is surprisingly well thought for a mobile game imo. has a similar UI to the diorama base view in xcom and is essentially a real-time resource management game (if you're into that sort of thing) for vault dwellers in the fallout setting.
you start with a handful of dwellers and some caps (money). first thing you have to do is generate enough power, food and water. each room can be extended and upgraded but to get the most out of each room type you need to assign workers with the right stats. strength for power generators, perception for water rooms, agility for food and intelligence for medlabs etc.
at the start of the game a few more stragglers appear at your vault door. you assign them jobs and expand the base as required. your dwellers level up slowly and there are daily objectives like 'create 50 food' that give you more money and lunchboxes. the lunchboxes contain cards that will give you extra food, money and at least one rare item like weapons and outfits. outfits give a dweller buffs in various stats that make them more efficient in whatever room you have them working in. at the start of the game you'll pick up 3 or 4 lunchboxes pretty quickly. the micro-transactions in the game are mostly around buying extra lunchboxes but they're only for impatient people. you don't have to buy anything to play this game. you can "rush" a room to produce something you need but depending on the skillset of the workers, their health/mood and how often you do it you'll run the risk of starting a fire (uses water) or an infestation of radroaches (lose health and irradiates them).
to increase your population cap you have to build a living quarters. after the initial groups of stragglers you'll then have to drop a male and female in the living quarters and depending how much charisma they have they'll make babehs. later in the game you can unlock a radio tower to attract more dwellers but don't do that until you're ready or your vaults "eco system" falls apart.
once you have some spare weapons and a decent outfit (i scored by getting a power suit from an early lunchbox) you can send a dweller outside to scavenge. a dweller can stay outside longer if they have stimpacks (recover health) and radaways (counter radiation) and will collect more weapons and outfits for your vault. the first time i sent a guy out i didn't give him any and when i woke up the next morning he'd been killed. i spent some caps to revive him and then recalled him back to the vault to collect the gear he'd found. ideally you want to build a medlab and science room to farm stimpacks and radaways.
your vault comes under attack by rad roaches who dig up through the floors irradiating whoevers in there and raiders who break in through the front door to steal your stuff. before this happens you should have opened a few lunchboxes and gotten at least one weapon out of them. you can assign an outfit and weapon to any dweller to fend them off and often a raider corpse will have more gear that you can give to another dweller. a nice feature is that when an attack is over you don't have to reassign them back to their job, they make their own way back. pro tip - assign weapons to dwellers when they're needed and put them back in storage afterwards. otherwise you'll be searching rooms looking for the guy who has the flamethrower while the ones in trouble are using their fists and losing health. if their health is low they won't work as well so it's in your interest to keep them as healthy as possible.
also it hasn't happened to me yet but the missus got attacked by "pigs" that almost wiped her whole vault out. she had to destroy a bunch of rooms which set her back quite a lot. that's the only time she's been tempted to spend a few irl $$$ on some lunchboxes. otherwise it's pretty awesome.
