[Booze] Tap King

When I first saw this ad, I wrote it off as a gimmick, but my cousin brought his over on the weekend, and I'm now a fan. Now, I'm no beer expert, but even loaded with Tooheys New, it was pretty damn tasty, and seemed to have the characteristics of a genuine draught beer. For any proper addict, the ritual is as important as a high, and trying to achieve the perfect pour is a lot of fun, especially when you have a bit of a cut on. The Chancer is one of my favourite summer beers, and it's available for the Tap King, so I think I'll be emptying a few flagons of that over the coming months.

Drawback: 3.2 litres doesn't last as long as you think.

All other factors being equal, the larger the container the better the beer.
Keg > 750ml bottle > stubby (fuck cans).

You should try it straight from one of these bad boys...

This was the first thing my dad ever taught me about beer and why he's always drank largies

Is that actually true? ie better quality/tasting beer? Or just a play on the fact you have more beer to drink?

It's true. Beer isn't the most stable beverage, in a perfect world the only thing your beer would be touching is more beer.

There's a noticeable difference between a stuby and from the tap

Strangely enough, I'm a recent convert to cans over bottles. Maybe I've fallen victim to hipster propaganda.

I have also invested in a Tap King and love the fuck out of it. Just needs a larger selection and I'll be in heaven

Fairly dubious, you get about 1/3 less beer for the price.

Case of 24 x 330mL bottles of the golden ale will cost me about $55 for almost 8L of beer (7920mL)
Case of 2 x 3.2L tap king refill bottles is $51.49 for 6.4L?

Am I mistaken? I would've thought it would be cheaper than a case of stubbies.

Marketing - "Hey lets reduce freight and packaging costs while selling less alcohol for a premium price. Win Win!"

After the initial outlay for the unit, it's about 20% less beer for the same price.

Although it's meant to be a home version of pub (draught) beer, so you get 50% more beer for the same price compared to buying by the schooner.

I would probably pay the premium if I was going to drink it enough. I did actually try this on the weekend at a friend's place (although he had Toohey's New...)

Problem is I already drink way too much and this wouldn't help. However, if they brought out the amber ale (James Squire Ninetails) I would have a lot of difficulty resisting.

Crushed a flagon of Chancer last night. It's so good! Once it hits your lips, it's so good!

Re: [Booze] Tap King

Epic - I'm going to have to get me one of these (just as soon as they add some decent beers for it...none of which Lion make)

The reason I go to a pub is for the atmosphere & to meet people/not have to have them at my place. People don't stop going to restaurants just because they have food at home, so I don't see this as being as bad as the hoteliers are making out.

What it will do is make people drink more however.

Bro brought a case of Golden Ale to bbq. lewl.

That being said, I've since been drinking copious amounts of Mountain Goat (Steam Ale & Hightail), Hop Hog India Pale Ale and some Two Birds Sunset Ale. So I'm not sure I'm really missing out.

I am going broke though...
