I clicked one of the links in this thread and saw that BTC = roughly 800 USD and nearly shat myself. I remember on some tech nerdy geek ass forums I read, someone offered to sell me 100 bitcoins for some paltry amount. But I live in Hong Kong -- cashing out would be hard. There's no local infrastructure, as far as I can figure.

My mate put in a few days worth of electricity mining it. Probably cost him about 30$ when you factor in lost profit and shit. I warned him the moment I heard about it that it would never get on an exchange. So now he's stuck with several million.

Assuming AMD

Download sgminer
Find most profitable coin at Coinwarz (untick sha-256 and look at "Scrypt" coins only)
Google that coin and find its thread on the "Bitcointalk" forums
Download its wallet and sign up to a pool
Create worker
Click the getting startered tab in the pool's menu
Copy the string changing "./cgminer" to "sgminer.exe"
paste into text file
rename text file into .bat file
place file in same folder as sgminer.exe
run .bat file


There's alot of different settings for different cards. You can check out what sort of hash rate they get and what settings to use at https://litecoin.info/Mining_Hardware_Comparison

I use coinwarz and its profitability chart as a sort of worse case for daily profit. You'll make much more if you do some research and find a newly released coin to mine as the total hash rate and "difficulty" will be much lower.

Mining verifies transactions, prevents double-spending, collects transaction fees and creates the money supply. Mining also protects the network by piling tons of processing power on top of past transactions.
